Chicks are one of the biggest draws to Burns Feed Store. Not only are we one of the largest poultry suppliers in the Northwest, but we also have one of the most knowledgeable staff in Oregon as well. If you have any questions about chicks whatsoever, Fran “The Chick Lady” can help you out with anything you might need to know about our feathered friends. If Fran is not here, any one of our staff will be more than happy to help you out.

  • Which types of chickens are best for laying eggs?
  • What type of coop do I need for raising a chick?
  • How many chicks can I bring up at the same time?

Fran can answer all these questions for you and more. She is basically a walking, talking chicken almanac. We call our poultry room Fran’s Feathered Friends for this reason. See the video below to see why Fran is a great resource for poultry farmers from backyard coops to large chicken farmers (and a local celebrity at that!).

Our poultry is available from February to mid-August usually, and we have a large variety of layer chicks, bantams, turkeys, ducks, geese, pheasants, chukar, and quail. We have the birds, supplies, and equipment for egg layers, meat birds or gamebirds. We also have rabbits and rabbit equipment all year long. You can pick up the following supplies at Burns Feed Store:

  • Feeders

Since the health of your poultry is important to you, it’s important to us. Fran can assist you with many of the health related questions you might have about your birds. This next section will cover several ailments that we see commonly.

Pasty Butt

Pasty Butt is the name for when the cloaca vent on baby chicks gets clogged. Chickens have one hole for laying eggs and doing their bathroom business. Usually you just need to manually clean their butts and the issue will resolve itself.

Coccidiosis

Coccidiosis is a parasitic disease in chickens that can be very damaging or even deadly if left untreated. Chickens can spread this disease through their poop, so if you start to see signs of diarrhea, give us a call and we can help you with a solution.

Marek’s Disease

Marek’s Disease is a very deadly and contagious disease and can wipe out an entire flock of chickens in certain cases. If you see extreme weight loss or paralysis with any of your chickens, it’s best to talk to Fran immediately, as this is a very serious issue.

Whether you’re just getting started raising chickens, have chickens but have a few questions, or you just need to pick up chicken supplies, Burns Feed Store has you covered.
